What can I eat on a plant-based diet?
There’s a whole world of plant-based foods waiting for you…
So, what can you eat on this diet?
The short answer: anything that’s not derived from animal products.
Anything not meat or dairy or loaded with sugar.
The longer answer:
Fruits- There is an amazing variety of fruits out there, and you can have whichever ones you like! You can enjoy fruit juices, whole fruits, canned fruits, and frozen fruits.
Vegetables- There’s just as much variety (or more) available here! You can grab whatever vegetables you like. Fresh veggies, canned veggies, or frozen veggies are all yours for the taking.
Grains- This is an area that often gets overlooked at first, but it gives you a huge range of foods to choose from. From bagels to whole wheat bread to rice, there are a lot of filling options.
Nuts- Not only do they taste great, nuts have amazing nutritional value! From peanuts and pecans to almonds in cashews, there’s an incredible array of nuts you can snack on to keep your diet on track.
Legumes- The name may sound a little strange, but you’re probably familiar with many of the foods in this category. It includes beans, peas, lentils, chickpeas, lupins, and more!
Those are just the start! There’s also an incredible variety of healthy plant-based diet friendly dips and dressings and spreads available to go with those foods. There really is a nearly endless list of options available to you.
The important thing is to make a list of your favorite plant-based foods, swap out your go to grocery list with those healthy alternatives, and then go out and get shopping!
Will it take some getting used to? Sure.
But will you start to see incredible changes in how you feel and how much you weigh pretty quickly? Absolutely!
And trust me, all your old favorites will be there if or when you’re ready for them again. Fast food isn’t going out of style anytime soon.
For now, though, just focus on finding a core set of meals, snacks, and drink options you can rotate through on a regular basis, so you don’t get bored and start reintroducing unhealthy foods back into the mix.
