We’ve all heard the expression “You are what you eat,” right?

Picture that as a literal truth for a second.

You end up with a person with a Big Mac brain, chicken fingers, turkey legs, tater tot toes, a hamburger heart, and soda running through their veins.

Sound familiar?

For many of us, this hits extremely close to home. For years, we’ve allowed our dietary choices to rule over our existence. Our daily schedules have revolved around our meal choices, and many of our most impassioned conversations have been regarding where we wanted to eat!

Have I struck a nerve yet?

Good.

You see, this is why a plant-based diet is exactly what many of us need. We’ve been so focused on entertaining ourselves with fatty foods that we haven’t even realized our dietary habits are killing us.

Does that sound like an overstatement? It’s not.

Obesity is a major factor in the lives (and deaths) of millions of people in the US every year. And child obesity is on the rise as well!

Back to our initial question: “How will a plant-based diet help me lose weight?”

First, because of the foods it forces you to give up. On a plant-based diet, meat and dairy products must go. I also advise getting rid of sugary desserts and drinks too.

Second, because you’re replacing those high-calorie, fatty foods with healthy alternatives. You may think that getting rid of meat and dairy products will leave you staring vacantly into endless bowls of lettuce…

That couldn’t be farther from the truth. Instead, it opens you up to an incredible variety of foods that are full of the nutrients your body needs to function at its best.

When you shift your diet to fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and other healthy meal choices, you’re setting yourself up for success in all sorts of ways.

  1. You’ll start to lose weight as soon as you cut sugar out of your diet.
  2. You’ll feel better as you lower your calorie intake and focus on giving your body just what it needs.
  3. You’ll begin to see your poor dietary choices were actually harming your body in ways that left you feeling like person with the Big Mac brain we mentioned above.

Instead, a plant-based diet helps you refocus on what really matters nutritionally. And, if you stick with it, you’ll end up with a leaner body and a clearer mind.
