Are there weight loss diet plans for vegetarians?

Interesting Question: Are there weight loss diet plans for vegetarians?

The answer: Absolutely!

What do vegetarians do when they want to lose weight? It may seem like an odd question; but, the truth is, there are weight loss diet plans for vegetarians too!

Think about it: As a vegetarian, there are several different approaches you can take. The main distinctions here depend on your approach to milk and eggs.

These variations have names like “lacto-ovo vegetarian,” but we’ll keep it simple here:

  1. Many vegetarians consume both milk and eggs.
  2. Some eat eggs, but don’t drink milk.
  3. Others drink milk, but they don’t eat eggs.

What’s my point in sharing these distinctions?

If you’re still eating eggs and drinking milk, there’s a good chance that you’re making it harder for yourself to lose weight!

Think about it this way, when you drink dairy milk, you’re drinking a lot of extra calories. If you’re pouring it into cereal, you’re adding even more calories (and sugar) into your diet. So, while you’re avoiding meat (which is great), you’re basically shooting yourself in the foot—in terms of weight loss.

“What’s wrong with eating eggs?” you might ask. And, I honestly don’t believe there’s anything wrong with eating eggs in a moral sense. However, if you’re trying to lose weight, eggs may not be the best choice for you.

It’s not really a question of calories-per-egg, but more a question of how much fat and cholesterol you’re adding into your diet. It also influences the foods you give yourself permission to eat. You may pride yourself on deciding to eat something that contains eggs, but no milk or meat, and that recipe could be just as unhealthy as the others would’ve been!

Here’s an analogy I like to use: Losing weight is a journey. It’s like a long walk. Now, if you’re trying to get to your destination, is it going to be easier walking there with a light hiking pack or with a backpack full of bricks?

My point: Drinking milk and eating eggs when you’re on a diet is like trying to walk a long distance with a backpack full of bricks, it just makes it that much harder!

Now, you’re probably thinking, “You don’t want me to eat eggs or drink milk, what else do I have to give up?”

That’s up to you; but, if you really want to boost your weight loss success, the next thing you need to leave behind is sugar.

It may sound like I want to take the fun out of eating, and that’s not necessarily my point. However, that leads to a good question: Have you been eating for entertainment?

Think about that for a second. Are your dietary choices based on what your body needs to survive and thrive, or are they based on what will entertain your tastebuds?

If they’re based on your body’s needs, giving up sugar shouldn’t be a big deal. You don’t have to have sugar to survive.

If they’re based on entertaining your tastebuds, you may have a big issue on your hands.

Did you know that sugar addiction is more than just something we joke about when we overeat?

It’s actually classified as an addiction. You can read all about it in this article from Addiction Center: https://www.addictioncenter.com/drugs/sugar-addiction/

My point in sharing all of this isn’t to scare you or to insult your current dietary choices, it’s just to open your eyes to the ways that we hold ourselves back from reaching our weight-loss goals.

You’re probably wondering: If I’m not a fan of normal vegetarian diets, what weight loss plans for vegetarians do I recommend?

My recommendation: Try going with a plant-based (or vegan) diet for a while.

It’s very similar to a vegetarian diet, but I believe it can be much more effective!

First, you’ll lose all of the extra calories you’ve been consuming by drinking milk.

Second, you’ll lower your bad cholesterol and fat intake by giving up eggs.

Third, you’ll experience the amazing relief of giving up sugar and processed foods!

These changes can make a world of difference when it comes to losing weight.

But what if you take it even further and start drinking more water? Just a couple extra glasses a day can help you burn hundreds of extra calories! According to the chief medical editor at WebMD, “You’ll also benefit from a drop in saturated fat, sugar, sodium, and cholesterol.” https://www.webmd.com/diet/features/6-reasons-to-drink-water#1

Want to boost your progress even more? Add regular exercise to your routine, and your weight loss could soar through the roof!

However, the real key to weight loss isn’t in any of the tips I’ve given you in this article so far. It actually lies in the one element most diets completely overlook: your mindset.

That’s right, the thing that will help you the most when it comes to losing weight (and keeping it off) isn’t even mentioned in most diet plans!
